The Blind Rider

Lost my clear visor on the way to Mulllum (Frida's son is wishing happy new year to someone). Decided that, if riding back at night would wear the swimming goggles. Did it in the afternoon as a trial and found out they get foggy. It was 7 pm in Newcastle, beautiful sunny "afternoon"; I would be home by nine the latest. How about the sun glasses? good idea, they are not too dark, they will do. They did, until started raining 100ks before Syd. and I couldnt see a thing through them, and all the lights reflected on them, the water poured into my eyes. I couldnt see the shoulder, I couldnt see any exit, couldnt stop to remove the glasses. I could only keep on riding by intuition until I got to somewhere with light poles - lots of them - and I saw the shoulder and stop - just! Took off the sun glasses and lowered the sunny visor down to a point where the rain didnt get in my eyes. Could see very little through the visor but when I had any doubts about the way I lifted my head very quickly and the eyes didnt hurt too much. Got home 10:30, soaking wet because I forgot the wet pants. Why wet lice? I got lice from the kids. It seems that there it is common to carry some in your head. Very worrying when you are wearing a helmet and cannot scratch your head.

"A study in Sydney: riders risk impotence

Is riding your bike a problem for your health? It seems like it could be, with doctors saying motorbike riders risk impotence. A study was done on a group of 230 motorbike riders who rode their bikes for 3 hours every weekend and the investigation says, 70% had problems gaining an erection or emptying their bladders.

In Sydney, more than 2100 motorcycles and scooters were registered last month, increasing the total amount to 66,000. Because of this high amount of bike riders the City of Sydney council is offering free parking and more parking areas for motorbike riders.

The investigation says: “Vibrations from the engine also caused a decrease in two growth hormones in the bladder and prostate related to bladder relaxation. Impotence affects most males during their lives and can be caused by emotional issues, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking or alcohol.”

And more: “But all men should avoid sitting on hard bicycle or motorcycle seats, particularly seats with thin, pointed ends, for long periods to prevent compression of pelvic floor muscles.”

We advise you to keep riding your bike or scooter, never forget your helmet, gloves and leathers, and to stop every so often to give your pelvis a break!
